How to fit your Grip Protector
IMPORTANT
Fitting genuine Grip Protector products is straightforward and safe. For best results, it is important to follow the instructions detailed below to ensure your Grip Protector / rear bumper protector / foot mats are fitted correctly.
Ensure you are working in a dust-free environment. The ambient temperature must be between 18–35°C. Failure to do so will result in the Grip Protectors / bumper protectors NOT sticking to the surface securely.
You will require the following:
Heat gun or hair dryer
Gloves
Hot soapy water
- Put on your gloves.
- Clean the bumper thoroughly with hot soapy water before drying completely with a heat gun or hair dryer.
- Wipe the bumper area with the 100% alcohol cloth provided and wait 5 minutes.
- Peel the backing paper from the back of the bumper strip and, carefully aligning it, place it in the correct position onto the bumper area.
- With a heat gun or hair dryer, gently heat the entire bumper strip, especially around the edges. The bumper strip will become soft. If you have ridges on the surface, you need to gently press the bumper strip over them. When it cools, it will retain its shape.
When fitting ‘over-the-edge’ bumper strips
Follow steps 1 – 5, as detailed above. In addition:
- Gently heat the bumper strip with a heat gun or hair dryer long-ways through the middle so it starts to bend at least 45 degrees over the edge of the bumper.
- Wearing your gloves, with your fingers, press firmly over the protector especially over and around the edges.
Reasons why Grip Protector may not stick
- The temperature is too cold.
- The bumper has not been cleaned adequately.
- Not enough heat has been applied to the bumper.
- Brand new bumpers are often sprayed with silicone from the factory. This requires a more thorough clean.
